Create a new document in adobe photoshop. The document size is 663px x 466px. Make sure you’re basic colors in the toolbar are black and white. (if the colors are not the standard black and white just click on the ‘D’ tab on the keyboard). Take the gradient tool from the toolbar (press G) and change the mode to difference. Make sure the opacity is 100%, the buttons dither and transparancy are checked.

Draw some stripes from any direction you like, do this until you are happy with the result. just make sure you get more than 50 stripes. This is my result…

Create a new layer and put the layer in front of the first layer. Change the gradient mode back to normal. The colors should be #0f0e0e and #242323. Choose a direction you like and draw a line with the gradient tool so the full page is changed into this color. Now we add some noise to the layer (filer – noise – add noise). Change the amount to 2,45%. Then we add a new filter so the image get some movement. Go to twirl (filter – distort – twirl) and set the angle to 778°. Change the layer opacity to 90% so you get something like this…

Press Ctrl+F (layer – First link ) 4 times so the twirl gets more visible and creates a kind of wave. go to the filter gallery (filter – filter gallery). Look for the halftone pattern in the gallery and change the settings like seen in the image below.

I looked on the internet for some cool anime characters to add above the background and i found this cool set of vectors. Click here to download the vector pack. if you like to draw you can use you’re own images of course. I picked the young Goku character and placed it in the center of the twirl effect. the two layers under the image should become one layer so I merged them together.

Press Ctrl + Alt + B and change the background color to any color you like, just move the sliders, change to highlights, midtones… I picked a yellow color.

As a final touch we give the character a glow effect (layer – layer style – outer glow). Look at the settings on this last screen to get a good result.
